I have been
desinging for Barbie since 1996. After many frustrating hours of
fiddling with poorly fitting commercial patterns, I starting to create
my own. I have been dressmaking my own clothes since I was 13 in 1983
and began sewing for others when I was 18. In 2001 I took the final
step and embarked on a pattern making course so I could understand the
design, alteration, toilling and fitting procedures
required to create a pattern of couture quality.
The process of creating a new design is long and tedious starting with
the initial concept drawing of a garment. The first base pattern must
be drafted, toilled, fitted, redrafted, toilled and fitted again. After
several redrafts, toilles and fittings, the final pattern is drafted
and instructions written. Then the final version is created in the
fabric(s) as initially designed and lastly embellished. Some patterns
have taken 2 weeks to get just the right fit.
Most of my pattens are written for the indtermediate/advanced sewer as
the
instructions are a guideline for the sequence in which the seams should
be sewn. There are no "how to's" in the books unless it is for a
specific
technique that is not well known. I strongly suggest looking into the
"Recommended Reading" section of each book as this has a list of
reference books and/or web sites that would be of great value to
the novice and
experienced sewer alike.
Patterns range from medieval through to modern day gothic. Day
wear, evening wear, sporting attire and bridal is included with both
sewing and knitting patterns in all seasonal pattern CD's. Some
individual patterns are
also available that are not included in the books.
I hope that you enjoy sewing my patterns as much as I have enjoyed
creating them.
